Hello Again,

A few days ago I posted that I had a problem with Windows 7 locking up and icons missing. I posted in the "Malware" forum thinking it might be a virus, but after some minor disk tool scanning, the indication was that the main C: hard drive was bad/going bad and needed replacement. So, I purchased a new, higher capacity drive and installed it. The new drive seems to work okay; however, I am still experiencing problems.

I formatted the new drive and installed Win7 Ultimate but I am still having trouble. The PC seems to boot fine, but eventually locks up. I hear the sound as if the hard drive is parking. The lock-up may occur withing 15-20 minutes up to one hour. After a hard reboot, Windows will often start up just fine with the same events happening as run time progresses, but sometimes Windows locks at the loading screen. Sometimes Windows progresses past the loading and welcome screen and then locks at the desktop with the hard drive seemingly running nonstop. Also, there seems to be consistent high hard drive activity prior to lock up, although performance monitor indicate about 40% physical memory usage.

I am again seeking your professional advice on how to proceed.

Best Regards,

Ular
