Hello G2G! (July 5, 2005)

I recently added several MS Ofc Visio 2000 template (*.VSD) files to my program files folder from the "Solutions" and "Samples" folder on a different computer with the same MS Ofc Visio 2000 program installed on it. I also have MS Ofc FrontPage 2003 installed on my computer and I haven't added or changed any files in that application prior to encountering the following problems. After I launch Visio and choose to either "Create a new drawing" or "open an existing drawing"; I can select "OK" or "Cancel". If I select "OK", I'm provided with the opportunity to "Choose a drawing type" from a list of templates on a tab titled "Solutions" and I'm also provided with the option to "browse templates"; "OK" or "Cancel". What follows, regardless of the choice I commit to, is Windows Installer immediately launches directly over Visio and tries to install MS Ofc FrontPage 2003 and I see the following message:
"Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003"; "gathering information". The hard disk drive suddenly gets really busy and during that time the message "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003"; "gathering information" reappears a couple more times followed by another message titled "Visio 2000 Program": "Visio 2000 Program has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." "If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost." "Please tell Microsoft about this problem." "We have created an erro report that you can send to us." ""We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous." Regardless of which choice I make next; "Debug", "Send and error report" or "Don't Send" Visio is shut down. I've tried comparing the dates of the files I copied over to my computer with the dates of other files in similar program folders in Visio with the hope of being able to delete those files and replace them with a back-up copy of Visio. However I've had no success solving this problem and I don't really understand why MS Ofc FrontPage 2003 has anything to do with the addition of Visio files. I've also surveyed the properties of quite a few Visio files to better understand the problem and I started comparing the "version" or "version number" of the files expecting to see something obvious about their differences but that's been no help. I could sure use some help fixing this problem, please advise!

August 13, 2005: Well since I haven't received a single reply from anyone, I decided to add some new information about what I've learned from this problem since I originally posted this message. I found a way to solve the MSI pop-up problem by installing Visio Viewer. It's a free download from Microsoft.com. I can only speculate that a similar problem could possibly be solved by installing a viewer for a program that's behaving the way Visio did for me. I presume that the installation of the viewer helped clear up the registry for Visio and it's components. Good luck!
