Problem with Shut Down and Sleep

Have an Alienware M14x running windows 7 that is having issues. There are two issues, but it seems to me they are probably related.

1. It will not, ever, come out of sleep. Obviously I have tried everything, pressing the power, the mouse, the keys. I have it set to not really go to sleep, but sometimes my little son will close the lid and it will go into sleep. Besides I prefer to have it go into sleep sometimes. This probably also seems universal across sleep and hibernation.

2. It will not complete a shut down. Reads windows is shutting down, fan kicks off etc. but has to be mainly turned off.

These problems have gone on for a little while and I've tried searching for answers but haven't had any joy.

Any ideas on what could cause this or possible suggestions to find the cure?

Flush DNS
List content of Hosts
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size
List Devices (problems only)



Click Go and post the result.


Download Autoruns and Autorunsc
http://download.sysi...es/Autoruns.zip
Unzip it to your desktop and then double click autoruns.exe After the scan is finished then click on File>>>>>>>>>>>Save The default name will be autoruns.arn make sure to save it as Autoruns.txt under the file type option. in other words make sure it is a .txt file instead of .arn Attach the text in your next reply.

Download Ccleaner

Hit the tools button then the start up button disable all items except.
PC Tools Spyware Doctor 9.0 (Version: 9.0)

Then Run the cleaner button.

Close all programs reboot and test your issue. :)

That has done the trick, Thank You!

Just to mention what kind of filth is that ask.com toolbar. I uninstall it ages a go- and it wasn't in the uninstall programs. I had to manually search it out, delete everything and clean registry. It was even still running the update program despite the fact it had been "uninstalled" and removed from firefox.

Glad the issue is resolved. :thumbsup:

As far as the ask toolbar it is a problem for a lot of people.
