I can't access my own Administrator acct since I tried creating my daughter's acct. Now I'm unable to figure out where to find my music, my pictures or anything. I've read how to clear this but am even more confused than when I started. Should I just take it to a computer repair store? or is this something I could fix myself? I'm not that computer literate but can follow instructions. Thanks for your help :)

Hi,

Two questions:
- Can you log-on in to the system using any account?
- When the computer start it shows a screen where you click on the user logo like this:

or you need to type your user name and password?

Yes I can log in but not as administrator. Now it only shows the new name I added but when I went to go find my music I realized I could not longer find anything of my own.

Ok, lets do some checking...

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.
Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options:
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply.

I was reading the logs from the tool box download and realized could the Avira program I downloaded a long time ago be causing me problems as well? It was just a trial program I used to see how it worked. I really hate being this bloody useless when it comes to computers :(

Hi,

Lets try to make the Administrator account visible...
- download the ZIP XP_AddAdministrator by Doug Knox
- extract the XP_AddAdministrator.zip to the Desktop
- execute the file XP_AdminEnable.exe
- check the box Enable Admin Account on Welcome Screen
- click Apply
- restart the system

Hi,

You can use a program like 7-zip suggested by Rockmilk or you can use the build-in function included on Windows XP following this tutorial:
How to create and extract a Zip File in Windows ME/XP/2003

Good. Now about the Antivirus, besides Avira do you have another Antivirus installed and working?
Seems you install Avira as Trial and its not working anymore, if you don't have another program you could remove it and install the free version from this page.
