Tried going into regular mode of the infected account but the malware is still there, it shows up as a white screen with message and does not allow me to do anything else other than shutdown or restart .... sigh

Also, during the very first step, a folder was created with C_ProgramData with a file in it (rttevjmgloi.exe). We haven't done anything to it yet.

Do not touch that files. That's quarantine for OTL.

• Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

OK. Start infected account in Normal mode and tell me how is your account now.

Restarted the infected account in normal mode - ohh cooll it restarted normally in regular mode, infection seems to be gone oh thanks a lot.
It did retain the classic XP look for the 'Start' button, so I changed it to Win7 look and restarted to be sure. Both admin account and non-admin account open up fine. I opened few files and all is well. thanks a lot
Is there something else to be done, clean up etc?

Your logs and system are clean now. I'm glad we fix up your computer.

Step 1

Please close all running programs and Run OTL

• Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
  
  

  :OTL
  
  :Commands
  [purity]
  [emptytemp]
  [resethosts]
  [clearallrestorepoints]
  [Reboot]

• Then click the Run Fix button at the top
• Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Step 2

We need to clean up your PC from programs we used.

Please start OTL one more time and click CleanUp button. OTL will restart your system at the end.

In case that any of the software we used in this fix still remains on your system please delete it manually (Right click on it and select Delete).

General recommendations

Couple of points, i noticed that the custom fix deleted restore points, when is it a good time to create a new restore point for future use? And in the OTL cleanup step, shouldn't I include 'Scan all users' to clean stuff from my admin account because that is what we were using initially?
Also, isn't it a good idea to keep OTL for cleaning temp folders and cache etc?

I will definitely buy you coffee I appreciate your patience for such a long time. I will read through your links.

OTL already created one restore point. Usually restore points are created automatically when you install new drivers, windows updates etc. You can also created restore points yourself before you install some some software How to create restore points.

Please don't use OTL for that. OldTimer, creator of OTL, also created TFC for cleaning temp files. TFC has same cleaning engine as OTL so please use TFC instead.
