Hi timmyc6336,

How is your computer behaving now?

You're logs are looking clean. Let's sweep for remnants.

Step 1: Run SecurityCheck

Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Step 2: Run MBAM.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Step 3: Run online scan.

Run ESET Online Scanner:

Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan. You will however need to disable your current installed Anti-Virus, how to do so can be read here.

  • Please go here then click on: Posted Image

Note: If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then double click on it to install.
All of the below instructions are compatible with either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox.

  • Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on: Posted Image
  • When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is Not checked, and the option Scan archives is checked.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Now click on: Posted Image
  • The virus signature database... will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.
  • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically. The scan may take several hours.
  • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.
  • When completed select Uninstall application on close if you so wish, make sure you copy the logfile first!
  • Now click on: Posted Image
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.
Note: Do not forget to re-enable your Anti-Virus application after running the above scan!

Things I need in your next reply:
  • SecurityCheck log
  • MBAM log
  • ESET log
  • Any outstanding problems?

Good Morning Buddierdl,

The computer seems to be running much better now. The only problem I can see is that it will not connect to the internet. Internet Explorer will not connect and the computer is not evenrecognizing the wireless connection (the wireless connection is good, I am using it with the other computer to write this.) I use the "Diagnose Connection Problems," tool on explorer and it come back with: Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings.

I was able to run the Security Check and Malware-Bytes, Malware was not able to uspdate because I can't connect to the internet. Here are the logs:

Hi timmyc6336,

Let's take a look at the services to see if we can fix the internet.

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.
  • Make sure the all of the options are checked:

    Posted Image
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • List Minidump Files
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Hi timmyc6336,

Please run the following OTL fix then test your internet. Your logs also show that your USB wifi dongle is not connected to the computer. If so, please connect it after running the fix. If you still don't have internet, please try rebooting.

Start OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
    :Files
sc config bits start= auto /c
    sc start bits /c
    sc start wuauserv /c
    sc start bfe /c
    sc start mpssvc /c
    sc start mpsdrv /c
    sc start tcpip /c
    sc start dhcp /c
    netsh int ip reset /c
    netsh winsock reset /c
    ipconfig /release /c
    ipconfig /renew /c
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered.
  • Post the log it produces in your next reply. The log should be saved in C:\_OTL\MovedFiles and should be named with numbers describing the date and time it was run.

Please also provide me with another MiniToolbox log.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • List Minidump Files
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Also the computer has built in WiFi so it has no dongle. It still can not connect to the internet with the same errors being displayed.

Thank You

Hi timmyc6336,

Are you sure about the built-in wifi? Your logs show no wireless devices except for a USB Network Adapter.

Step 1: We need to fix some service corruption. Please download each file below, then right-click on them and select "Merge." Answer yes to any prompts.

mspdrv.reg
tcpip.reg

Step 2: Run OTL custom scan.

Open OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following:
    /md5start
    tcpip.*
    mpsdrv.*
    /md5stop
  • Select the None button at the top of the window.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

I am sure the computer has a built in WiFi. I have no idea why it is not working. I can connect directly to the modem through the ethernet cable if you want me to do that.

Thank You,

The wireless still does not work. I plug the ethernet cable directly to the computer, and still nothing. I did the windows troubleshooting for both, each time it says "Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy setting" The wireless is working fine, I am using it on the other computer to post the messages and also connect with my kindle without any problems. The computer with the problems does not detect any wirless connections at all.

Thank You,
Tim

Hi timmyc6336,

Download Windows Repair (all in one) from this site

Install the programme then run

Posted Image

Go to step 3 and allow it to run SFC
Posted Image

On the start repairs tab click start
Posted Image

Select the following items and tick restart system when finished
Posted Image

Now see if your internet is fixed (make sure the computer reboots after the above steps). If you cannot connect, please run the scans below.

Please open Farbar Service Scanner[/url].
  • Make sure the all of the options are checked:

    Posted Image
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Please also run MiniToolbox again as below. Please try running it once for each connection (wireless and ethernet). You can attach these logs as they are rather long.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • List Minidump Files
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Could you also please tell me the make and model of the laptop.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Hi timmyc6336,

Let's run ESET now to pick up any stragglers. Also your computer should be updated to run Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. This update should come through Windows Updates. Please let all the updates install (you don't have to do the optional ones) and let me know if you get SP1.
