Ok so I have several quastions. I recently accuired a notebook & it is a 2004 gateway is all I know about it. I got a restore windows XP cd to try to start over. I got a product key finder cd & got the key but when i entered the key when trying to restore windows it keeps telling me the key is invalid so i went ahead & did the restore without the key & now its telling me only have so many days to register it. If I dont enter the right key in time is is going to quit working? How do i find the right key? How do I get the restore to work properly? any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

There should be a sticker on the bottom of the laptop with the original OS version and serial number.

Is the original OS XP?
Are you trying to do a factory recovery?

Without that sticker your only other option is to purchase a new XP installation disk with a product key or contact Microsoft and they might be able to get you a new key once you explain the sticker is not all there.
