I am considering buying this rig piece by piece when I can to use for gaming and some video editing. I plan on running FRAPs while playing some games. Mostly Total War, C&C, the new Sim City, Darkest Hour and other similar games. I am mostly a strategy gamer on PC. What do you guys think of this potential rig? I already have a monitor from my old desktop, which died not too long after I got a new monitor for it.

Any feed back or recommendations are welcome.

Gday RebelGamer137, Welcome back..

You are on the right track with the build but it is a bit unbalanced and a couple of items you could easily do without. A little more information please before we adjust the configuration.

How serious will your video editing be? Casual, Home enthusiast, Pro?
What software will you use for video editing, ie. Adobe Première?
Can you use any other parts from you old PC, Ie. Optical drive, HDD/s
What is your Max Budget?

My video editing is going to be mostly Lets Plays and other gaming videos on YouTube so hobby level. I am not sure about the editing software yet. I might be able to use parts form my old desktop but I might do something with my old desktop. What would you say is unbalanced or unneeded? I know for a fact I don't want Windows 8. So I will have Windows 7 in some form.

Thanks for the info.
If you have or are getting a Camcorder, they have ther own video free editing software with links to paid for ver. or you can use 3rd party software like iMovie(beginner)
Sony Veges( enthusiaste). Unless you go to Pro editing, you do not need a i7 CPU. An i5 will do the job well and is the sweet spot for a gaming rig.
Please do not take my comments as criticisms or disrespect to you.

The inbuilt sound on the Motherboard today is excellent, so I would start with that and if you are not satisfied, add a sound card later.
When a boxed Retail CPU comes with a heat-sink and fan and install an after-market one instead, you will void the CPU warranty. They are designed to keep the CPU within it's thermal footprint, and do the job well, so again use it to start with, , , ,
You have too much RAM, it will sit there doing nothing, Max for your build would be 16GB.
Your video card will only give you mediocre results.
I would advice going to750W for the PSU, giving you some wiggle room for future parts upgrade or additions.

You can of course make alterations, like going back to your selected case.

I am not getting a camcorder, I am going to be recording video game footage and making videos with them on YouTube. I plan on using a program called FRAPs

http://www.fraps.com/

That is why I am getting so much RAM. FRAPS and games can be demanding. That is also why I got the i7 processor. As for the Harddrives. I would rather spend my money on one big HD. I just consider SSDs to be overrated and overpriced. Too little space for too little money. A lot of my videos will be long too. Even when complete some will b e 2 to 3 hours of footage.

Thanks for the update.
HDD setup is very important, you need to start with a min of 2 drives.
OS, games and program on the SSD.
Capture, (writes) from FRAPs on the 1TB HDD.
A more advanced configuration with much better performance.
RAID 0 for capture.
A 2TB dedicated storage drive, partitioned, general DATA/source files/finished projects.

My main problem with SSDs is they are too small and cost too much. I am trying to stay under 2000 if I can help it. So I have to cut corners somewhere. I don't mind the computer taking a bit longer to start up.

Find out which store has it available or if they can get it to your pick up location, be quick, they had a similar offer on the i5 K, only lasted about 10 Hours.

Some info, although the auricle refers to Mac, the principle for the HDDs applies to PC. > http://macperformanc...erIsBetter.html

Reconfigured build for you to consider., it can be tweaked down, if you can get the i7 from Micro, cuts the price.
