This computer is relatively new, and is intended as a replacement for my old workstation. When I set it up it was visible on the local wireless network, and was able to access the various computers as well. I've been gradually moving stuff, & installing various software, games, etc.

Today, however, was the first day I tried to do some work on it... and of course now it is not visible to the network and of course it cannot see the network either. I've spent the whole morning racking my brains trying to get this to work, to no avail. In the process I discovered that I AM able to access at least one of the PCs on the network via IP address but I have not been able to get it to resolve names...

It's time to ask for help... Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Please do the following from the computer that is not seeing the network and a computer that is.

Click on Start then Run or press Window key (next to left Ctrl key) +R and paste the following into the Run box, exactly as shown, including double quotes:

cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping yahoo.com >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt"

and press ENTER.

A file will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the contents here. Close the Notepad window and the file will be deleted and the Command Prompt window will also close.

If you don't have a Run selection off the Start menu, see here: Enable Run Command on Windows 7 or Vista Start Menu, or just press Windows Key (next to the left Ctrl key) + R.

Also, have you set the Workgroup name the same on all computers?

Thanks for the response. I really appreciate it.

This is the Windows 7 computer that can't see the network (but previously could). If it's not obvious, I'm using the wireless on this PC.
The next post will be from the computer that can see the network.

Thanks again - This is baffling me. As noted before, the Win 7 computer was previously working as desired but decided one day to stop. I pretty much did everything I could think of, including a system restore back to the last time I know it was working - to no avail. My next step was to do a factory restore... which I'd like to avoid for obvious reasons.

The first computer has a IP address of: IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 108.94.76.117(Preferred)
The second one has a IP address of: IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.68

It appears they are getting their IP addresse4s from two different routers? If so, to allow communications they need to be on the same subnet. If you are using two routers you need to set them up in Bridge mode so only one is giving out IP addresses.

I wonder if this is caused by the DNS Search Suffix?

Configuring DNS Search Suffixes

Try clearing that in Advanced TCP/IP Settings, DNS tab.

Hi. Sorry for the delay...I had friends in town over the weekend.

Good news: I removed the computer from the DMZ but didn't check to see if that changed anything. I got onto it today however and everything seems to be working.

Looking back I can't remember if I DMZ'd it when I was trying to get things working or in order to facilitate the torrent-based updating of a software client. Note to self: find port and map for next time.

Thanks for your assistance and patience.
