I did a fix on my computer with the operating system and it disabled my programs and internet access.
It shows I no longer have any service packs installed.

Installation of service pack 1 failed because I don't have internet access.
It runs for a few minutes and then I get:
Service Pack 1 Setup Error.
The following error occurred while Service Pack 1 Setup attempted to download the Service Pack 1 files from the Internet:
The server name or address could not be resolved.

It was sp1aexpress_usa.exe
I have a Dell Latitude D620 32bit.

I really need access to the programs on that computer and I can't find all the codes needed for reinstallation.
Any help is appreciated!!

Dude i seriouly advise you to move on to another operating system, windows xp is so exploitable, and easy to hack, tons of exploit and security flow on it, it would be better that you move to windows 7 ultimate 32 bit else, another solution is just download offline Update and install it it more easy you can find it into torrent or some other file hosting in the net .

Hello Brigg

Can you remember what fix this was mate as from what you say you may now have a malware infestation.

Have a look in Device Manager to see if there are any X's or exclamation marks (!) against any device.

Do you still have your XP installation disk?

Your advice is flawed as most machines running XP simply do not have the hardware to support Windows 7.

I spent a ton! of time exploring malware issues on that computer on Bleeping Computer. I don't think it's malware.

Now I can't find Device Manager in the Control Panel or in System. Where is it?

Lets have a look at a couple of logs from your machine please.

Please download FarbarServiceScanner and run it on the computer with the issue.

Make sure the following options are checked:
Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center/Action Center
Windows Update

Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Flush DNS
Reset FF proxy Settings
Reset Ie Proxy Settings

I cannot get those programs to run. None of my programs will run.
It's possible they require XP with at least service pack 1 or 2 to run.
I also tried it in Safe Mode.

Regarding Device Manager, it is not visible in the Control Panel.
From Safe Mode, I tried Run, then devmgmt.msc
It just comes back to the desktop.
I tried it in regular mode as well.

To create a new user, use Control Panel, User Accounts.
To look at Device Manager, click on Start then Run, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.

Hello:

When I click on Control Panel, it clears the screen, goes to my Dell Wallpaper, then just gives me the desktop.

I did try to access Device Manager from the Run command - see my note at 8:37 tonight.

Open a command prompt by hitting control alt delete at the same time.
Then hit new task.
Then in the run box type cmd and then hit enter or ok.
When the command prompt open's then see below.


Type the following commands hitting enter after each.
Then reboot the machine and see if you are able to log into the test account and perform diagnostics it will be an admin account so anything you do from within it should stick.


net user test /add
net localgroup administrators test /add
Exit

Lets see if the programs will run under this new "Test" account.
