For whatever reason my computer will not recognize my newly burnt Sony CD-R (music disc). I have burnt a disc using Infrarecorder, iTunes, and WMP just to be thorough here. After burning the audio cd I eject it, and then put it back in the tray so that the computer will read it. Instead, Window's still shows "DVD RW Drive E:" and nothing else. Attempting to open drive E in WMP, or VLC results in a complete freeze of either application until I eject the CD-R again. What gives?

I should also note that the disc never spins up in the tray.

Unsure of manufacturer, but the model number of my drive is : dh-16a6l-c

It sounds to me that the Read aspect of the optical lens is faulty Vette.

Will it read any disks at all?

Yes. It can read all of the CD's in my music collection, and DVD's.

Then I would suggest that the disk has not burned correctly.

Apparently the cd used was R Brazened which, unlike a RW disk, can only be written to in one session.

It still has to be closed though. It might be auto or it has to be ticked.

I tried the disk in my friends Diskman. It won't play in there either leading me to believe that you are right WolfeyMole. I'm using iTunes to burn them, is there anything else you would suggest? I'm burning through (ba dum tish) these CD-Rs fast with all of these tests.

Also, when I made the first CD using Infrarecorder I had "Close disc" checked during the burning process. This is really strange because my drive would burn DVDs and such just fine.

I just tried Imgburn. It freezes when I'm selecting the files to create a .cue file.

After being unsuccessful with that last attempt with Imgburn I grabbed my next CD-R to try. Strangely, this one actually registers as a blank CD in Windows Explorer. Could it just be that the first three discs were faulty?

Well, the files burned correctly this time using iTunes with this particular CD-R. But they still won't play. WMP, VLC, anything I use freezes when I try to browse for the drive.

How old is this optical drive Vette and what are the make of disks that you are using?

They are Sony CD-R music discs (80 minutes). I have no clue what's going on, but I tried burning a DVD-RW, and it works just fine. The drive is only about 2-3 years old.
