Forgot Password, anyway to factory reset?

I have an old computer, a Dell Inspiron 8000, which originally has Windows '98, but was reloaded with Windows XP. I have tried every F key combination to get to the boot menu, all it does is beep and then it just loads the login screen. I don't know the password, the laptop was given to me to try and fix. Does anyone know what I can do? Thanks.

You could contact the guy that asked you to fix it for the password Dolphin.

He doesn't know the password, which is why he asked me to try to fix it.
