Okay, here's my problem...

I am trying to play a DVD (Supernatural S7) and it won't play. I know the disc is spinning because I can feel it when I place my hand underneath my laptop where the drive is, it's just...not playing. I don't think it's recognizing the disc because at first it told me to "please insert disc" when the disc was already in. I have played dvd's on this laptop before with no problems, both tv-show dvds and movies. If someone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. :help:

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron, about a year old. Runs Windows 7 and, sorry, that's all I know about my laptop.

Will it play CD's?

I have not yet played a CD in my laptop, so I don't know. As far as DVD's of any description goes, well, I guess. I haven't tried anything else since the day of my first post here. My mother recent;y got injured in a fall so I've been focusing on helping her...when I'm not at work, sorry. I'm gonna try one of my other movies tomorrow probably. Maybe I'll try a CD as well.

Okay, so, I have yet to try a CD but I tried playing a DVD again with no luck. I then went into the Help and Support thing on my computer and it said that my computer didn't recognize the disc (format). That it might be damaged or inserted upside down/backwards. I see no damage on the disc, no scratches or anything. I just don't get it.

I would offer that the DVD aspect of the optical lens is either faulty or dead ComputerGirl.

Oh, uh, wow. Yeah, not what I wanted to hear. Can it be replaced? Fixed? Should I take my laptop to a computer doctor?

It would be easier and cheaper to replace the optical drive altogether CGirl, however take it to a reputable computer repair shop and see what their take on the situation is.

I find it strange that with the laptop only being about a year old that the drive has issues though.

Maybe I should take it to the store I bought it at, they have a computer repair center. And, I find this strange too. I'm wondering if it's maybe something I did, without realizing.

Without know where in the states you bought the machine it would be hard for me to state whether they were reputable or not, for example PC World here in the UK has a terrible reputation when it comes to service and have actually lost peoples machine before today.

The DVD Read/Write and CD Read/Write aspects of optical lenses fail all the time Computer Girl so it's nothing new or anything you may have done unless someone's tried to stick a slice of toast in the drive.

Let us know how you go on please.

I bought my laptop at a store called Staples here in the states. It's an office supply store. I've taken my other computer, a desktop, to them when it needed fixing and they did a great job. The hard drive had to be wiped clean.

I will definitely keep you posted.;)
