I am trying to test out an APC Backup unit before putting it on the resale shop shelve. When I connected a computer to it, the pc does have power. However I get an error message on boot up which may or may not apply. It tells me the USB is not properly configured. ??? I went to APC.com to look for an install manual and nothing matches the numbers BN 600. There is an ethernet/usb connector but the three ethernet ports don't seem to be a match for a pc. There is a modem slot, a data slot and a fax slot. Where am I supposed to plug in the USB/ethernet or is it even important. The pc operates plugged into the APC>

Having a connection between the PC and the UPS is not required, although it does allow for the PC to be shutdown in case of a power failure.

If you don't have the UPS connected to the PC, the USB error would not be related to the UPS. If the UPS has an ethernet connection, you would need a hub or a switch to connect to the PC, or another option is a crossover cable.

A picture would help.
