I've got a Toshiba external HDD I got off Amazon last year for £40 for Uni, didn't actually need it much so being a slob I left it on the floor a lot.([bleep]ing stupid I know)

For a while now when I plug the HDD into my PC or any PC it turns on (blue power light confirms it plus the sound of it whirring) however it isn't being detected on the systems, my PC plays the USB connection noise but no way of accessing the drive from Computer. I've tried using numerous different USB cables to connect but still the same.

Does anyone have any tips to fix this? I'm all open to cracking the thing open if need be, just rather fix it instead of spending another £40 or so.

Have you looked in DISK MANAGEMENT (diskmgmt.msc) to see if windows detects it when it is connected (it just might be that it is not formated so not showing under MY COMPUTER so it is not accessible).

Hope that helps
