I'm tired of trying to install software and having Windows 8 tell me I'm not the administrator. Right clicking on the software does not always give me the option to install as administrator and even when that option appears I still get strange messages like the software does not have priviledges to access the program data directory and then it tells me to log on as administrator. I AM LOGGED IN UNDER AN ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT. I understand there is a separate administrator account with Windows 8 but I'm hesitant to activate it because, as I understand, you cannot rename it and then it becomes abundantly clear to any outsider which account is the administrator and thus, which account to take command of. Can anybody out there help with this situation? Occassionally running a program called "take ownership" works, but, not always. HELP?! I'm pulling my hair out! How do I get Windows 8 to understand that I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR?

Now for your issue. Can you create a new administrator account and see if problem persistswhen using the new account? Also you can look into running a System File Check by command prompt. Here's the code to start the SFC command:

sfc /scannow > "%userprofile%\desktop\sfc results.txt"

Please open the text file on desktop when shine and post the results. Also let me know about the new account and if it works.

PS: I should be near a pc soon, in which I will be happy to provide more details and more support if needed.

Thank you. This was very helpful. Sorry I am just now replying. Somehow I missed the email that a reply had been made to this thread long ago. The command you gave me found some corrupted files Windows was unable to repair but it told me where to find the log so I could see what is corrupted and figure out what to do from there.
