Hello,

The DVD/CD drive icon in Acer Laptop is not visible under "My Computer", not visible in "Device Manager", OS do not recognise it, changed the boot sequence to boot from dvd (no luck), performed system restore, remove & re-insert the dvd/cd drive, checked the services to see which had stopped but did not see which service relates to dvd/cdrom, edited the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SYSTEM, then CurrentControlSet, then Control, then Class, and click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}In the right pane, deleted UpperFilters listed, rebooted, update BIOS, the DVD drive blink to acknowledge it receives power, it can open & close, when a disk is inserted it tries to read it but nothing happens, can not rollback or update any driver as its not visible in device manage…….YET Windows Vista still don't recognise it, please HELP!

OS Name: Windows Vista Home premium (SP 2)
Manufacturer: Acer
System model: Aspire 5220

Error in System log reads:

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
cdrom

Event ID: 7026
Source: Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider

The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Event ID: 7000
Source: Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider

Thank you.

Sounds like it may be a dead drive. You can often find replacements starting at about $30 or so.

These errors appears at any time, not limited to a particular activity. Windows in general fails to start a service and apparently results in event id 7000 error etc.

So I would suggest you to follow these tips to fix such as errors properly:-

- Check Event Viewer
- Login as Administrator
- Update Windows
- Restart the Service
- Configure Login information for Service
- Use Group Policy Editor

If you find some trouble while performing steps then you can take a help from here:-

Thank you will give it a try.
FYI: I tested the DVD/CD drive on another laptop and it worked fine.
