windows cursor flashing

hi there and thanks for help in advance

I have a windows pro machine windows startup and just before windows should load it hangs with cursor flashing .
What i have done is take out drives check cables did find a cable fault and replaced it .
2 check drives is displayed in bios
3 done chkdsk fine
4 done fixmbr and fixboot
5 boot from second drive and it shows ntldr missing as expected

desperately need info on that drive thank you

if you need any other info just ask
running windows xp pro
ide hard drive maxtor 80gig
intel pentium 4 processor 3g
75% of drive free

Have you tried starting the computer in Safe Mode by continually tapping the F8 key when you power up the computer.

Do you have an XP Pro installation disk.

Do you have access to another computer with a disk burner and an internet connection.

Please provide more information about your computer, this includes is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if it is branded provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the MB, add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable us to better assist you.
