I installed it twice because I saw others having the same problem but honestly no. I'm thinking something is blocking my firewall. No matter what I do I can get it started. I'm getting winsock error now too. not sure what that means but can't i just uninstall the network and start fresh? Is there any other way to get the firewall started. I feel like that is what's causing all of this.

All this started when you installed service pack 3, that's the problem I see.

Winsock, is a technical specification that defines how Windows network software should access network services, especially TCP/IP

Do you know how to do a System Restore in windows, yes or no?

Yes but I don't want to lose any of my work. If I restore back to far I will.

Here is a copy of the diagnostic log. Maybe it can help? I hope?

To be honest, with the winsock errors you're getting you have issues probably beyond my abilities when it comes to networking,

You could give this a shot,

Lets look in device manager, for your Network adapter

To open Device Manager, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

Once in the device Manger, go down the list, look for Network adapter to the left of "Network adapter click the arrow, that will expand the list, in the list the first one listed should be the hard wired adapter, right click on it, choose uninstall, now reboot, windows will reinstall the adapter.

See if you can connect to www.google.com

Only go there, because you don't have an Anti Virs installed yet

How to do a system restore

Click Start
Click Programs, and then Accessories
Click System Tools and open System Restore

Hey I think it may be malware related or just something stopping the firewall. It goes on for a few second and then off and I ran avast and there were a lot of infections!

Any other ideas how to get the firewall working?

Hi vtach1924,

I ran avast and there were a lot of infections!

If Avast found infections, it's very possible there are other infections that Avast may have missed. The only way to be sure is to have more scans run. I strongly suggest you follow all instructions and post in the Malware removal forum Here

Someone will look at your log and advise you.

Thanks,
Joe :)

Like I said in my first post you should post in malware section lol :P
You really should all so consider getting a new Operating system as Microsoft ends support for XP 2014 and when that happens XP will become even more Vulnerable to exploits.
See here for more details>>> http://www.microsoft...dofsupport.aspx
