Shockwave Flash problem

Three or four times a week my XP desktop (with Firefox Yahoo edition ---1.7) stalls and this error message apears:

"Schockwave Flash may be busy or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the plug-in now, or you can wait ....."

Can someone please tell me what's going on?

1. Does this sound like an adware problem? (I have run and cleaned up after an Malwarebyte scan.)

2. Can I remove Shockave Flash and replace it with something else?

3. What else should I try to stop these incidents?
