Ethernet port to usb converter.
Hi guys I have an acer laptop with all the usb ports broken. Is there any way I can use the ethernet port to add a usb converter if this makes sense.

Basically both usb ports broken is there anything I can do to sort this myself without sending it to a specialist

There are such adapters available but they are not converters, they will not enable you to connect an external USB device such as a HDD or keyboard to a computer, a couple of reasons for this that come quickly to mind are the fact that they both use different types of signal to communicate with the computer, the types of MB chips that USB and communication ports use are both different and the amount of power the two types of port use are different.

The types of adapter that are available are intended for use with routers and modems and the router/modem has to have it`s own independent power supply, example adapter here let me know if this is the type of adapter that you were hoping to use.

Let us know the full brand and model name or number of the notebook so that we can check the specs and see if there are any other ways around the damaged USB ports.

Ive just bought some of them thinking it was suitable but its an external hdd I need connected for dj work looks like a new laptop is needed
