Not on every file, but all newly created files and downloaded ones, as well as a few others.

Let me consult this with my colleagues. At this point I only see problems with the Junctions Links on your profile, and the permissions to the documents folder are not inherited.

Is the Not valid Win32 application error still returns?

I will post back with an answer prompt.

Were you able to activate the Built-in Administrator account, boot in Safe Mode and create a new User Account without a problem? (see post 19)

If you are able to create that account, logon into this account (let me know the name of the user). Upon on the desktop, press Windows+R. At the Run line copy and paste the following and press Enter:

cmd /c dir /al "%userprofile%"> "%userprofile%\Desktop\junctions.txt" and press Enter

Post the contents of the junctions.txt that will be created on the Desktop.

Press Windows+R. At the Run line copy and paste the following and press Enter:

cmd /c set > "%userprofile%\Desktop\MyVars.txt"

Post the contents of the MyVars.txt that will be created on the Desktop.

That profile looks good. I will attempt to take ownership of the "donkey kong" account documents and copy these to the new account.

Logon to the Rance account.

  • Copy the entire contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as xDoc.bat
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on the desktop
  • Once saved, click on the xDoc.bat file and wait until finished.
  • Once done, go to Start->Documents and attempt to open a file.

@Echo Off
Takeown /F "C:\Users\Donkey Kong\Documents" /R /D N
xCopy "C:\Users\Donkey Kong\Documents\*.*" C:\Users\Rance\Documents /s
Del %0

1. Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso
http://images.malwar...om/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your Desktop:
2. Double-click VEW.exe
3. Under 'Select log to query', select:

* System
4. Under 'Select type to list', select:
* Error
* Warning

Then use the 'Number of events' as follows:

1. Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
Type 20 in the 1 to 20 box
Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

Please post the Output log in your next reply then repeat but select Application.

After doing Start>documents in Rance profile, I was able to open the few folders that were copied to "Rance" from "Donkey Kong" and the files in those folders were there.

Attached Files

  • Attached File  VEW.txt   10.76KB   171 downloads
  • Attached File  VEW2.txt   25.94KB   154 downloads

After doing Start>documents in Rance profile, I was able to open the few folders that were copied to "Rance" from "Donkey Kong" and the files in those folders were there.

Does that mean that the transfer was not complete? Are there more files and folders missing?

From now on logon as Rance.

Click on the Windows key+R. Copy and paste the following commands and click OK

cmd /c dir /ad "c:\users\donkey kong\documents" >"%userprofile%\desktop\report.txt"
cmd /c dir /ad "c:\users\donkey kong\my documents" >>"%userprofile%\desktop\report.txt"

Post the contents of the report.txt on the desktop in your next reply.

No, the .bat did complete, but if it was meant to copy everything then it didn't happen since only half of the folders are there.

I believe it was due to the unicode character name on files and folders, as they appear in a language other than English. Since we took ownership of the donkey kong documents, can you manually copy these files and folders to the rance documents folder?

Are there any other personal files such as pictures and movies you must recover from the donkey kong profile?

The idea is to transfer as much as you can, as to remove the donkey kong account. That profile is corrupted.

Would having to do that be the only solution, or can the coruption be fixed someway?

That is the only way . Here is a Microsoft Article.. You just have to make sure that the following hidden files are not copied into the new profile:

  • Ntuser.dat
  • Ntuser.dat.log
  • Ntuser.ini
