Took a look at your dump files and feel that you may have resolved the issue yourself by uninstalling Toolwiz Time Freeze, the program is pinned to your start up process + it is running in Windows kernel mode which would explain the hardware crashes.

 

All that I would suggest is to use the computer as you normally would and see if it crashes again, with the USB HDD connected if you will please. 

 

The IE issue is not related btw, IE 11 was such a pain in 8.1 that I disabled it and use Chrome as my default browser, never had a problem since

It seems like the issue has been resolved since I uninstalled Toolwiz Time Machine (It was Toolwiz Time Machine and not Toolwize Time Freeze that I had installed although Toolwiz Time Freeze is partially integrated into the program).

 

I've been using the external hard disk drive off and on, and Windows hasn't crashed yet. I'll leave the external hard disk drive connected and see what happens.

 

I had Internet Explorer disabled, but I was unable to open the log for AMD's driver installation even though I had another browser set as my default. I even went into Windows associations and made sure the browser was associated with everything it could be associated with. I still couldn't open the log for AMD's driver installation. I thought perhaps it required Internet Explorer to view. So, I left Internet Explorer enabled recently, but I haven't experienced any problems during the AMD driver installation since. I thought about disabling it again, but I"m pretty sure disabling Internet Explorer just makes the program inaccessible; it still remains installed on the system. I assume it would be better to leave it alone. I'm just concerned that the problems I'm experiencing with Internet Explorer are a result of a more serious issue.

You could try running the software again but this time with Driver Verifier running, if the computer does crash the USB storage device drivers and \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\ToolwizTM.sys may be shown to be at fault.

 

Regarding IE11, I can only pass on the information that I have first hand, I had the same problem when I first upgraded to Windows 8 but that was cleared up one way or another (possibly a MS update) the problems that I had included the page being timed out and the page backward/forward and refresh tabs not working, it did not resolve itself in 8.1 so after weeks of putting up with it I ditched IE11 and use Chrome instead.

It's interesting that you say you've had trouble with Internet Explorer's back/forward buttons.

 

I've experienced the back button not working in Chrome and Firefox. When I use the back button, it sometimes won't work. I'll just remain on the same page, unable to go back to a previous page regardless of how many times I use the button. To reload a previous page, I have to hold the back button and select a page from the shown history instead. I'm not sure if it's the browser or if it has something to do with the webpage I'm on at the time.

Unfortunately, the black flash has returned. In Internet Explorer, the flash appears as a black rectangle that occurs in the top right-hand corner of the screen (over the toolbar and part of the webpage). In Firefox, it occurs as I described before. I reinstalled Windows 8 a second time, and the black flash remains.

It turns out that Internet Explorer is required to view the installation log for the AMD driver. It works with Internet Explorer but not without it, even when another default browser is set.

I just finished playing a 720p 10-bit video with no issue at all. That's more graphically instensive than running a browser, yet it's the browser when the flashes occur.

It happens in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Opera, Sleipnir, and Maxathon with and without extensions. The only extension I have in Firefox at the moment is EagleGet's. The rest have none.

After restoring Opera down and maximizing it many times, sometimes it will not flash; but most of the time it does.

I tried out elementaryOS using a liveCD. It isn't really smooth, which I suppose to be expected when using a liveCD; but I didn't notice the flash.

The live CD would run in RAM and use it's own video drivers.   with no flashing, shows the monitor and connections are OK.

I have been unable to come up with a way forward, but will keep mulling it over.

Are the CPU and GPU usage okay? 720p video plays smoothly, and I have no issues when seeking. 1080p video isn't as smooth and often results in a lot of frame drops. Judging by the CPU usage that I've observed when playing 1080p video, I take it the CPU is responsible for bad playback and not the GPU. One core often maxes out. Sometimes both cores come close to maxing out at 95/99. CPU usage is generally a little lower when using EVR custom present, but 1080p video playback still isn't very good. DvD's result in constant frame drops, too, which I don't understand because I can play a 720p blu-ray rip of anime just fine.
