I reformatted my grandsons laptop. Then I used the recovery disc and set the computer back to original state. I can connect to the wirelsee server but when I click on Internet Explorer it says it cannot find the page. I have worked on this for 3 days and I need help!!

I ordered the recovery disc for the Toshiba Satellite laptop. It took 8 hours to format the drive then I loaded the recovery software. Windows XP comes up and runs ok. I get on the internet at hardies. My HP folio laptop gets on the net ok there.

The disk that I refer to is provided by your ISP (internet service provider) and it is used to set up an account which you pay into for you internet usage, AOL and Comcast for example are two well known ISPs in the US.

Do you have a wireless connection at home or do you use an ethernet connection.

I don't have internet at home. I go to a free WI FI at hardies or McDonalds. I found on your site where a lady found a fix at Microsoft. It was Fixit50199.I tried that with no success. The Toshiba has a testing and trouble shooting in the computer and it says everything is running. I can connect to the hardies server but not to Internet Explorer.I am at a stand still.

I found out that the computer was trying to go to http://start.toshiba.com/microsoft internet explorer. I went into settings and clicked USE BLANK. Then I typed in for it to go to http://google.com.Now it will come up to a screen but if I search for something it says the page cannot be displayed.

You would find this far easier to do if you connected the notebook to a phone line at home or a friends, you have a fresh install of XP on the computer and so there is no Internet account or history established, have you used the XP internet wizard.

Once an internet user account has been established and the notebook configured to connect automatically to wireless connections you should have no problem connecting at the two places that you mention.
