My Inspiron 1720 laptop screen is losing brightness on one side anyone have this happen to them

Possible causes may include a bad inverter or bad backlight.

 

Have you tried hooking the notebook up to an external screen to check if the image there is ok.

 

With notebooks the inverter is often the easiest to replace and the least expensive + some notebook screens do not have replaceable backlights which means that a new screen is then required.
