32 bit XPpro.  dg33fp  motherboard  E6850 -3Ghz dual core  2gb memory   Radeon HD5700 vid card

 

It only Crashes when i am running PlayOn and watching video.  This has only started in that past 2 weeks or so. I have been using Playon for a couple of years(1 yr on this build)

related oddity: When i start playon and go to system check, all the parameters are at max.

                          If i request a processor performance check that will eventually turn red and report "error".

 

I did a support request from playon. They stated there is a driver issue that they can not resolve.  

 

I dont know what i am doing for the most part, but i have used the Driver Verifier tool and didnt see any thing that said problem or failure to me.

I updated a few drivers from intel, Creative(gameport driver) and my vid card.  That hasnt helped.

I tried using WinDBg  and did review 1 of the 3 crashes recorded. Then i found WhoCrashed and viewed all 3.

I only have 3 because my system wasnt set to save them-but i learned.  In all 6-7 crashes all in the past 2 weeks, only while using playon. 

 

Here i what i wrote from the last BSOD(each time it mentioned drivers) :  Stop 0x000000c5   (0x002DC6C0  0x00000002  0x00000000  0x8054B0BA ).

 

Error Signature:  BCCode 100000C5   BCP1  002DC6C0  BCP2 00000002  BCP3 00000000  BCP4  8054B0Ba (are these a rehash of the BS report?)

I do have some drivers that are pre 5.1.2600 but they have all been there doing what they do .  

I have not done a Ram Test, but i did pull the ram and switched the slots when reseating.

I do not have my system set to auto update. I visit updates once a month and the last time i went i clicked express instead of custom and forgot about it for a day or so, so i dont know what Windows update installed during that time, but according to the update history, it didnt involve any drivers as far as i can tell.

 

Ideas anybody?

Thanks for responding. Thanks for the welcome.  I did actually spend some time last night reading about what has been done for others BSOD problems and with the little bit of info i had began using what i read and got it all fixed today.  Have run playon for several hours without any issues(just like the old days(two weeks ago!) I followed advice given to someone else and downloaded 2 different free driver updaters.  I had a lot of old system/MB drivers as well as an outdated Vid card driver.  In all i updated about 20 drivers(the newer SB Live wmd driver by Kx audio just doesnt want to load, but that wasnt part of the problem or the solution.).  Everything is seemingly running stable...just like the old days!  The cause of the issues really was 2-3 updates in a short time by playon(they blame my drivers and disown all).  With playon running it tickled something older that didnt like being tickled that way.  The new drivers are not having any issues with it.  So, again thanks.

In case you havn`t done so already can I suggest that a new restore point is created to secure these stable settings - just a precaution;

 

1. From the Start button menu, choose All Programs→Accessories→System Tools→System Restore.

   You will see the main System Restore window.

2. Choose the option Create a Restore Point.

3. Click the Next button.

4. Type a descriptive name that you will remember.

5. Click the Create button.

6. Click the Close button and that`s it done.

To answer a prior question, I do use a usb wireless network device... a netgear wn111 v2  rangemax---which i just learned needs it's driver updated too.

Planning to install 2 more sticks of memory  this weekend - will bring the total to 4gb (yes i know 32 bit XP wont recognize/use it all)  in preparation for making this into a dual boot.

I need xp pro to run old games with old gameport hardware.  Just about everything else will be on W7.  I hate to see the old pro go away.

looking to upgrade to a quad core at some point.  Am considering trying the xeon conversion trick.
