You will need to set up a partition. You can do this manually, but it is easier to use a program called partition magic. Also you can buy a distribution of the linux you want and it usually comes with some sort of partition maker. Once you create your partition(s) cause actually you will have at least 2 installing Linux is easy. Do you have Linux experience? If not I would read a few books on the Operating System first, as just trying to jump right into it usually is overwhelming if you don't understand how the Kernel works. Good Luck, and welcome to the wonderful world of Linux.

Here! You can go to this site below and download Knoppix STD, then copy it into the CD and it will let you load the whole Operating system from the CD without having to go thru so much trouble. It's free to everyone. Check it out! Have fun!

If you have the fedora core version of linux install it second after windows and then it installs a boot loader called grub I have the same thing on my other comp dual boot with win xp and linux and it works fine just partition the drive install windows on the first partition and linux on the second and make sure the grub loader sees your first partition and then in the bios make sure its loading from the second hard drive instead of the first one.

Most distros will do it for you. I would reccomend ubuntu and fedora core 4. both of them will automatically see xp and they will do the dual-boot work for u
