i turned on my computer the other day and could not connect to the internet. i use a wifi adapter so thought it may have broken. tried connecting directly to the modem via ethernet cable and it still is not detecting it and is saying "no internet connections available" when in fact there are many connections available. i tried running troubleshoot but it is stating that there are no problems..please help! i need internet connection ASAP!

Is this the only computer that can't connect?  Do you have another on this same router that it is working?  Is the Internet light on the router lit?  What make and model number is the router?

Copy the next 5 lines:

ipconfig /all > \junk.txt
tracert -d -h 3 8.8.8.8 >> \junk.txt
net start >> \junk.txt
notepad \junk.txt
echo done
Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and Run as Administrator, Yes.  Right click and Paste or Edit then Paste and the copied lines should appear.
Wait about a minute for it to finish and for notepad to come up.

Since you don't have Internet you will either need to copy the C:\junk.txt file to another PC with a USB or just tell me what it says:

For ipconfig /all  you will get something like:

Windows IP Configuration

   Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : OneGuy
   Primary Dns Suffix  . . . . . . . :
   Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid

   DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.11.1
   DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 8.8.8.8
                                       4.2.2.1
   NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled

Tunnel adapter isatap.myhome.westell.com:

   Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : myhome.westell.com
   Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft ISATAP Adapter
   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0
   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
   Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
...
Just tell me what is different in the boxes.

For the tracert you should get:

Tracing route to 8.8.8.8 over a maximum of 3 hops

  1     2 ms     1 ms     2 ms  192.168.11.1

I expect the next two will just have * and time out.

  2   296 ms   269 ms   275 ms  98.125.215.1
  3   313 ms   305 ms   305 ms  208.110.248.153
Trace complete.

For the last command are any of the boxed items missing?:
