So I have had my desktop for about 3 years now, and about a week ago I noticed my computer disconnecting from my television. It started when I was in the middle of a game, and all of a sudden my screen went blue with a little box in the corner saying that it wasn't connected to anything like it would if I were on an unused input. So I restarted my computer thinking it was nothing, and when I was in the middle of a different game, my computer crashed with patterned grey lines going across the screen. I restarted my computer again, and I got a message in saying the display driver was having issues, then it flickered the grey patterned lines as well as a completely black screen. It is now at the point where my computer seems to refuse to connect to my tv. I was using a VGA cable and tested 2 different ones on my tv and my monitor, and got the same results. I began to use the HDMI output for the past couple days, and now it is doing exactly what it did to the VGA cables. I decided to try to see if I could get a display by connecting a VGA cable to the motherboard, and still got the same results. I'm really concerned that either the video card, motherboard, or even both need to be replaced, and since I do a lot of gaming on my desktop the prices for new parts are out of my range. If anyone has a solution, please let me know.

Bad graphics solution or a flaky PSU are strong contenders as the cause.

It is a cyberpower desktop, pre built, and I believe that the video card is an AMD Radeon 5450. I would provide more specs, but I can't recall anymore from memory, and I can't look at the specs on my computer, since I have no display on the monitor.

 I decided to try to see if I could get a display by connecting a VGA cable to the motherboard, and still got the same results.

 

This suggests that your MB has an integrated video chip, if this is correct can I ask if you removed the add on video card first, this because the integrated video chip is disabled by default when an add on video card is fitted, whether it is working or not.

 

If you did not remove the add on video card but do intend to do so make a note of the PSU details while you are there
