thinking of buying a signal repeater.

my laptop is an inspiron 1525 running vista home basic 32 bit

as my setup is my router is all the way on the other side of the building

i;m connected to a bell aliant business modem router

i get two bars right now,if i move my laptop across the appartment i get four bars.

some times i cant get connected so i have to move closer to the router.

i'l probably end up going to staples for an extender. 

i'm thinking one of those that sit in a wall outlet.

would any extender do or do i need a specific type

would that be a no no because of humidity or would it be an acceptable place.

Your best bet is the signal repeater. I suggest Amazon or Newegg, and read the user reviews. Sometimes these things work great, other times they don't.

I have the same problem; my router is located on the 2nd floor East wall, my workbench is in the basement South wall where I work on client computers and need internet access to test and also when removing viruses.  I have tried a signal booster antenna on my router which was a waste of time. Then I tried a signal repeater which did nothing.  I finally took my router off the stand under the desk and placed it on a shelf above the desk, and now I can get at least 2 bars in the basement which is all I need. I have a 120 year old victorian with plaster walls and my workbench is located next to the furnace (lots of sheet metal) so that is probably the reason for my weak signal.

Whatever you purchase, make sure you can return it if it doesn't work. Also, if you get a repeater, remember that you need that signal to be security encrypted. Don't compromise the integrity of your home network by having one unencrypted signal within the system. As to locating in a bathroom: unless it is an extreme humidity condition, I don't think that is would be a problem. These units are pretty well sealed tight.

just got a dlink dap-1520 so far so good.

couldn't  use wps so had to configure it through d-link site

10 hours in and it seems to be doing the job.

the real test is when services drops down a notch,but i guess i'l see then.

had my first problem.3 day in

had to reboot wireless access point(router) from my pc.

then had to disconnect and connect again.

i wonder what makes it need that?

it's funny because my mom's computer is siting right next to mine and it had no problem.

i'ts working again.

i had to reboot the router (access point) manually, witch is annoying because i have to wait for store to open in morning just to get at it.

i wonder if there is any thing i could check for? or if i need to contact my isp. for more info.

Sometimes it's on the ISP's end, also. I have had to do a hard reboot of the router several times through the years with Comcast. Give it some time to see if it does it again, then contact your ISP and get their thoughts.
