Hello! Should I join the GTG college??

I see grads here on the forum every night, but they aren't helping any members???

I'm from the old school of hard knocks. Learned from forums like this one.

I'm sure I could learn a lot more; but if I'm in college, can I still help on the forum.

That's what I really enjoy doing. Sharing what I have learned from others.

617 visitors but only 10 members ready to help if they have issues.

Thanks for your replies!

Hi :)

This is your call if  you want to join, because GeekU is a very demanding and time consuming program with lots of reading and research. Now please bare in mind that while you are in training, you are not permitted to give any malware-related advice (except while in the last stage of training, indicated by the GeekU Senior label). Of course other technical forums are open to any help, so you will still be able to post there.

GeekU - here is some more reading if not aware.

Cheers,

Naat :)

Hi donetao!

Good question.  The answer is inside you.  With 33 Reputation points, you have already helped people here.

You are like myself; learned from the school of 'do it yourself' / 'hard knocks' / 'what if I do ... OHHH #^#^#^#^##$#%$#%#%@#%' .  So even without the "formal training"  (GeekU as it is known here), you have a lot to offer.

I will tell you this; if you do join, it will be the most challenging, rewarding and frustrating learning experience yet!  Wither you have stacks of degrees in IT / PC or just learned how to turn one on yesterday, the training will teach all and fit all experience levels.  Fighting malware is like ordered chaos, in every sense of the words.  We understand PCs, OSs, Registry rules and protocols that should be used to make it all work seamlessly; malware producers care only about one thing - $$$.  I mean, we now have some malware out there that doesn't even have files but code "hidden" inside registry keys (Win32/Poweliks).

So, My hand is out to you; we need all the good help we can get.  http://www.geekstogo.com/geeku/

See you inside, classmate???

That's brand new :P
Also, you are allowed to offer any other technical support on other forums and here on GeeksToGo as long as it doesn't involve malware removal, when you're enrolled in the GeekU.

Hello!

Wow Thank you all so much. You all sure know how to make my day and make me feel welcome here on GTG.

I have the time, but at my age the learning isn't as easy as it use to be. I have thought about learning how to fight malware many times.

I just haven't pulled the trigger yet . I help seniors here in my retirement village with their computers and printers. So far I have been able to clean their PC's with MBAM and some online scanners(ESET,ect). I did have one that was so badly infected that I took it back to factory. I cleaned it up but I just wasn't sure if there were rootkits left ect, so saved data and went back to factory. If I had been trained here, might have been more confident.

Thanks everyone. You have made this old mans day

Well, to be honest... :whistling:

I have the time, but at my age the learning isn't as easy as it use to be.

And that's exatly why you should start it. If you'd feel at any time, that this is too difficult, you may always discontinue. But you'll never know that until have tried :)

Bare in mind that plenty of graduates & teachers also ended their training not exactly as a newborns (Essexboy, CompCav and some others will kill me) :)

Hello!

I know it depends on how much time and learning ability you have, but wondering about how much time is involved here.

I have seen where it could take a year. I also would hate to take someones time and then not be able to finish.

I'm going to give it some serious thought

Thanks everyone!
