Hello,

SYSTEM

Toshiba CD55t-B5208 (new, out-of-the-box)

AMD A8-6410m

6 GB RAM

WHAT

Intermittent Pointer/Touchpad freeze

  • Pointer may or may not disappear
  • Pointer/Touchpad freeze from 1 to 15 sec
  • If video/music playing, a brief “tick” in sound may or may not occur simultaneously with freeze

WHEN

So far...

  • Web surfing (Chrome and IE)
  • KingSoft WPS 2014 (all three)
  • Other programs, e.g. Task Manager, Process Explorer,...
  • Appears to be related to CPU load - even minor
  • Has not occurred during downloads - even multiple simultaneous
  • Frequency has not increased with multiple program/browser tabs open
  • I have been unable to rule-out any cause related to wireless (e.g. wireless problems can cause system to behave oddly)
  • Problem started right out of box - before installation of WebRoot Secure Anywhere

I have already tried the following usual, immediate fixes but obviously none have eliminated the issue:

  1. Update touchpad driver (driver up to date out of box)
  2. Uninstall/Install touchpad driver
  3. Disabled browser extensions
  4. Disabled hardware acceleration (Chrome)
  5. Use Process Explorer to identify interfering process(es)

Any suggestions for a fix?

Thanks

Hi, :welcome:

Considering this is a brand new computer, have you considered sending it back under warranty?

I doubt the problem is software related as you say it was like this before installing anything.

Edit to suggest,

One thing else to try would be an external USB mouse and see if the problem persists with that.

Nev.

Thank Plastic Nev,

The freezing touchpad/pointer and audible clicks are an annoyance rather than a major defect - at least to me.

Someone has a fix...

Thanks

Hello All,

Anyone think it might be an SMSBus issue?

Whatever is occuring it also causes the System Information CPU graph (set at 1 sec update) to stall momentarily in Process Explorer.

Thanks
