My xp has expired what can I used in its place... I tryed to download Linuxmint. having trouble.. not sure if I should be using it or not..

XP has not expired. Microsoft support for XP has expired. As long as you are careful, have a good anti-virus installed and don't use INternet Explorer you should be okay for awhile.

 

You do need to look into getting off XP as soon as you can.

Your choices for a new OS are Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or one of the many Linux distros like Linuxmint that you say you tried.

 

What you can do depends on your hardware.

 

What is the full make and model number of the computer?

How much ram does it have?

How big is the hard drive?

With Win XP, you have 3 choices

1. Continue with Win XP, but update the antivirus software (be careful and verify that it is still compatiable)

2. Update to a more contemporary OS (such as Win 7)

3. Update to a Linux OS

Note: I have the same condition and now am reviewing different Linux systems (Linux Mint 16 is the most recommended)

check your hardware to verify that it will support the OS you choose.

Most of the time Win XP is on an older system and to upgrade without newer hardware is a problem

Linux Mint has a thumbdrive system that will run on your system from the thumbdrive (this is highly recommended).

It can run on your system without changes to Win XP.
