I got my computer from Puget Systems.  (A boutique custom computer company.)  The computer is running Windows 8.1.  Puget installed what they call "Windows 8 Makeover Emulate Windows 7."  I think it's just Classic Shell plus a few tweaks.  It helps get rid of some of the ridiculousness of Windows 8.  :)

But a couple of weeks after the computer arrived, it started hanging sometimes, at Shutdown!  The screen goes dark but the big blue light on the case does not go out.  And when I start the computer the next morning, it hangs at post.  It says, "Overclocking Failed.  Please press F1 to reconfigure your system."  I was advised by the company's tech support to go into the BIOS and make sure it said the number '1' in some place that I can't remember right now.  But it already did say '1'... so the next time all this happened, I just went into the BIOS and out again without doing anything, and the computer booted up normally.

But this keeps happening... every third or fourth time I turn on the computer.  Most of the time when I press the button on the case to force the system to complete Shutdown, it takes a few seconds before the light goes out... but sometimes the light goes out immediately.  Once, the computer would not boot at all.  There was only a black screen with the light on the case, lit.  I think maybe I pressed the button too soon.

Tech support told me that the most common reason for this problem is improper shut down.  When that proved not to be the reason in my system, the next thing was, maybe there's an application that refused to shut down, hanging the whole system.  I was told to do the following:

1. Right-click in any open space on your desktop.
2. On the menu that appears go down to New >
3. A sub menu will appear, select Shortcut
4. In the Create Shortcut wizard, enter the following where it says Type the location of the item: shutdown.exe /s /f /t 00
5. Click Next
6. Type in Forced Shutdown for the shortcut name.
7. Click Finish

It seemed to work at first but after about 2 or 3 days, BOING!  The system still would not completely shut down!  :)

The OS is a Frankensteinien combination of Win 8.1, Win 7, plus Classic Shell with some extra tweaks.  There's no documentation for this particular setup!  Do you think maybe this strange OS could be the problem?  Over the years, I've noticed that the farther you go from just running things with all default settings, the chances for there being problems increase more and more.  I'm visually impaired... and I've tried to tweak things at times, to make it easier for me to see the screen.  But usually, that caused problems, and I just returned everything to the default settings and used stronger eyeglasses!  :)

Any help with this will be very much appreciated.  Thanx in advance.  :)

Does anybody have any idea what might be wrong with my shiny new computer?  :(
