In the search box type Msconfig and select the programme that appears at the top

1.In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Selective Startup on the General tab.

2.Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
NoteThe Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.
3.Click the Services tab.
4.Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.

5.Click Disable All, and then click OK.
6.When you are prompted, click Restart.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you... Sunday's are my longest day due to work... then having to tend to dogs before and after my long work day... adds to my day.

Anyhow, I powered notebook on and took less than 5 minutes to appear. I'm thinking I may have internet issues... as it is still taking a while for my web browser to come up... and they usually have a couple errors that pop up. One is the flash player plug in then the other is a script becoming unresponsive. This is in addition to the "Not Responding" as it attempts to go online. Eventually, it runs smoothly... which thus far, only time seems to be helping it. So, IDK...

I will now do the start up programs you suggest and will update you momentarily! Thanks for your patience with me.

Do you experience the browser problems in all browsers or just one ?

It appears it takes the desktop to appear in less than 5 minutes! However, some startups are still slow... Still have a serious "Not Responding" issues with all programs but it's especially bad when it comes to the web browsers. I just re-installed Chrome as I had uninstalled it because it seemed to be the worst of all the web browsers but I'm beginning to think maybe because it was my preferred and most frequently used browser. It's confirmed, same issue for all the web browsers. I'm wondering if you think I might have a hardware issue? 

Web browsers appear to work more smoothly after an hour or so... so during the first hour, there is a lot of "Not Responding"... and when it is responding, it's extremely slow. Even when typing there are what I call little speed bumps... I'll be typing along, then the cursor just stops for a a couple seconds... then it continues on its way. 

I know I don't have the typical internet connection. My internet is coming through my phone which I have tethered to the computer through the program PDA Net+... But I don't think it's that problem as once upon a time, it worked great on the Notebook. No issues. Fast loads, etc... I also am using it through my desktop computer with no issues. Fast loads. No issues whatsoever. I'm definitely mind boggled! 

I am very HAPPY though that my desktop now fully loads in less than 5 minutes than the original hour and a half!!! That was beyond frustrating! Lol... and glad it's a thing of the past now.

Okay... I'm convinced the notebook as a mind of it's own... I'm currently using Chrome and it seems to be working a lot quicker! I will still run the above program. Then I will check out FF to see if it, too is a lot faster. But so far Geeks to Go came right up! So, I tried Facebook and both websites came up pretty quick using Chrome. I did not receive the dreaded "Not Responding" messages at all!!!

Just to confirm, both Chrome and FF appear to be working okay. Chrome is quicker and better than FF... both seem to be a little slow at coming up, but once up... seem to work fine. FF however, did get the two popups... one about the scripts and the other about the shock player (flash)... in which, I clicked to stopped both. Neither gave me a not responding message...

Looks as though the browser not responding could be a router connection problem it is not constant though

I'm connecting to the internet from my cell phone (Verizon wireless) to my computer. I'm able to do this because I have the PDANet+ application installed on my phone and then have the PDANet+ Desktop application installed to the notebook. I then plug the phone into notebook via usb. 

I am doing this with the desktop computer as well, and am having no issues at all! Desktop is much faster than the Notebook when it comes to loading everything including the web browsers.  

With that said, the notebook appears to be working a lot better at pulling up the web browsers. I say this as I'm knockin' on wood! Lol

I should note that PDANet+ is a free program... however, to "unlock" it, there is a one time fee of $7.95. The difference is the free app periodically breaks the connection while the one time fee doesn't. I paid the one time fee so I wouldn't be annoyed by the breaks in connection.

Disclaimer to those reading this... I do not recommend you using PDANet+ UNLESS you have unlimited data on your phone. If you do not have unlimited data, you will be charged by your cell phone service provider whatever they charge for data usage on your cell phone plan.

Could you run a comparison between the desktop and laptop using http://www.speedtest.net/
Theoretically both should be similar
