I am unable to use my LAN connection The dialup modem works fine.

I have been down the adware/malware/spyware track and elimated all nasties but still no go.

My hardware seem fine and have reset the modem - it is showing PC activity and the icon shows status as connected.

I suspect a firewall setting or something preventing me accessing the internet and emails but as I ahve VERY limited knowledge I would like some help/.

I ahvfe attached my hijack this file. Thanks very much fvor any help on this

Hi there,

I read all that...what i suggest you to go to your network connections and there on the properties of ur LAN connection and first uninstall the internet protocols(TCP/IP) and reboot ur system and try installing them again..see if it works and if doesnt even after that then try reinstalling the drivers...hope this should help you out...

Hi nasdaqqueen,
Have you never been able to connect through your modem or did it just stop connecting??
Have you shutdown the pc, unplugged the modem, plugged in the modem, let it stabilize, then boot the pc and try your connection??
When you bring up your browser what do you get??

As for your Hijack Log rerun and check these for removal:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe (Go to ControlPanel, Add/Remove and uninstall this)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Symantec NetDriver Monitor] C:\PROGRA~1\SYMNET~1\SNDMon.exe /Consumer (If you dont use AutoUpdate you dont need this running)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SSBkgdUpdate] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Scansoft Shared\SSBkgdUpdate\SSBkgdupdate.exe" -Embedding -boot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMan] SOUNDMAN.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SetDefPrt] C:\Program Files\Brother\Brmfl04a\BrStDvPt.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PaperPort PTD] C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\PaperPort\pptd40nt.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msnappau] "C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\Updater\01.02.3000.1001\en-nz\msnappau.exe"

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Iomega Drive Icons] C:\Program Files\Iomega\DriveIcons\ImgIcon.exe (If you check this be sure to remove any Zip disks from the Zip drive before you shutdown. This running will eject the disks automatically)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IndexSearch] C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\PaperPort\IndexSearch.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Deskup] C:\Program Files\Iomega\DriveIcons\deskup.exe /IMGSTART

Ive finally figured that the Nortons Sytem works changed my IP address setting and/or DNS settings back to automatic instead of the ones specifically for my modem. I won;t be using it any more!

Thanks for your help anyway guys
