Hi pharmchick99 :)

Ok, I've done something wrong.  I got mixed up in Step 2.  I couldn't figure out how to move the stuff to the desktop, and I'm not even certain that I found the correct files to move.  When I tried to complete the "Fix" option, I got an error message (see attachment). HELP!

Not a problem :)  Both FRST and the fixlist.txt must be on the Desktop.

Two things to check:

Do you have FRST64 on your Desktop?

If no, please go to C:\Users\April\Downloads .
Once there locate FRST64.exe (Farbar Recovery Scan Tool) right click and select cut.
Then right click on an empty spot on your Desktop and choose Paste.
FRST is now on your Desktop.  That's one.

Then:

Since you have Windows 7, the default location for downloads is the Downloads folder.
To have fixlist.txt located in Post 12 download to the Desktop instead:

Click on the Post 12, Step 2  fixlist.txt.

When the Download strip window pops up on the bottom of your screen first click the arrow button

Then click Save As

Then choose Desktop from the left side panel.

 savetodesktopvistaup.jpg

This will set fixlist.txt onto your Desktop.

•  If it just so happens to save to another location, right click the fixlist.txt page icon and select Cut then right click on Desktop and select Paste.

Following this, please continue with Step 2.

Please let me know how you get on :)

Thank you :)

Apparently I have moved FRST  somewhere, but I have no idea how to find it.  I have searched in various folders.  I think I moved it to Documents instead of Desktop.  I see something in the Documents file, but when I click on it, it will not allow me to run it.  I don't know how to find it.  I'm sorry I'm being so difficult and ignorant.

Hi pharmchick99 :)

No  not difficult.  Not a problem! We've got you!

There's no uninstaller, we just remove it.

Last known location was to C:\Users\April\Downloads.  If it is not there, and not on your Desktop, and if you  cannot locate it please go ahead and download a fresh copy of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. Your system is 64bit, choose that version.

To have FRST64 land straight on the Desktop:

When the Download strip window pops up on the bottom of your screen first click the arrow button

saveastrianglearrow.jpg

Then click Save As

 savesaveasvistaup.jpg

Then choose Desktop from the left side panel.

 savetodesktopvistaup.jpg

This will set FRST64 onto your Desktop.

•  If it just so happens to save to another location, right click the fixlist.txt page icon and select Cut then right click on Desktop and select Paste.
Or just drag it onto your Desktop.

After FRST is on your Desktop, click on the fixlist here and download the fixlist also to your Desktop. Fixlist ~> Attached File  fixlist.txt   1.15KB   115 downloads

When the Download strip window pops up on the bottom of your screen first click the arrow button

saveastrianglearrow.jpg

Then click Save As

 savesaveasvistaup.jpg

Then choose Desktop from the left side panel.

 savetodesktopvistaup.jpg

This will set fixlist.txt onto your Desktop.

NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST/FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your

operating system

Run FRST64 (Right click to run as administrator to open the console)

Press the Fix button just once and wait.

If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.

When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post it to your reply.

Please then continue with Step 3 in Post 12

Please let me know how you get on :)
