Hi Queenb33251

:welcome:

It will be useful for us to know more about your laptop. What is the make and model, what did you do before this happened?

Any odd noises when it boots up, does it sound o.k., fans working, any numerous beeps ?

Is there a way you can connect an external monitor to your laptop. If that works you will know that the graphics chip is working, this may be the problem.

Gateway NV52L23u  when it happened there was no noise at all, fans working , no beeps at all. The screen turned white the I turned computer off  the screen was still white.  Pressing buttons does nothing.  When first happened I was using skyp talking to a family member and while talking and seeing each other the screen turned white but u could still here the person talking and he could still here me with the white screen.

Odd screen was still white with laptop off as you said. Sound no picture leans towards the graphics chip inside laptop on motherboard. As mentioned you need to first try to hook up another monitor to the external VGA port on back on the laptop, you may also have a HDMI port. This way we know for sure it is or isn't the graphics chip.

Looked on Gateway Support  http://us.gateway.co...upport-overview  did not find anything much, you can look also.

Try that first test if you can, get back with results.
