BFE still won't start

Please run FSS (Farbars Service Scanner) again and post back the log.

FSS says that there is nothing wrong with BFE.

I think something else is going on that is stopping BFE starting. Partly why I asked you to uninstall all your security products.

I and my colleagues are out of ideas.

Since this is an AVG product you are installing my best suggestion now is for you contact their support.

http://support.avg.com/support?l=en_US

Alternatively, and this is what I would do, you could go for format and re-installation of your Windows OS. You have had a nasty rootkit infection, signs of which were still showing in the MBAR scan. ZeroAccess does mess with a lot of things which is why we run tools to fix matters afterwards. You also had a lot of suspect, even malicious programs on that machine. Who knows what might be left that we haven't found. Also, have you used a registry cleaner at some point? If so, there may be broken registry items that would be very hard to locate. Better I think, to carry out a re-install. You need to do a format first though to make sure nothing is left on the disk that might reinfect the new install.

I've contacted AVG and had them try and do a remote install, but couldn't get it to go because of BFE....So, I guess I'm gonna have to do a complete OS re-install like you said.  Thanks for all your help that you have provided.

I think it's the best way to make sure all infection is gone and your OS is as it should be.

One of my colleagues has suggested that if you don't want a fresh install you could try a repair install (upgrade) with a Vista SP2 ISO. You might have to slipstream SP2 to a Vista SP1 ISO to do that though.

I am not the best person to help you with that. If you do want help you could try the technical forum here. Open a new topic explaining what you want to do and see if someone can guide you through the process.

Thanks for all your help that you have provided.

You are very welcome, I am only sorry we didn't manage to solve it for you.

I will be interested to hear how it goes. :)
