Good Morning,

I recently finished cleaning my system with wonderful help from 23red.  The link below is what's been done.  The computer seems to be running good except when looking at videos, news clips for example, the video appears blurry where I used to see a great picture.  Was wondering is something is making my system run slow or if this is a modem issue..  My cable provider recently has made some changes so that may be the issue.  Was hoping someone could help give me some advice or look into my computer to see what is running in the background that may be slowing it down that could be turned off.

Thank you,

Truder.

Hi Truder, funnily enough I have just answered another member with similar doubts about their internet service provider.

I therefore copied the reply to them here :-

"Hi, considering you already suspect (As I do) your internet connection itself via your ISP or cable company, it is easy to check that with a speed check.

Go to this website and run a speed test. Be aware that if you are not using some form of advert blocker, there are adverts tempting you to click on them, please don't, just run the speed test.

http://www.speedtest.net/

Let us know the result and if it is much lower than the download speed your cable company says it should be."

Good evening.

Not sure what it means but below are my results....  I recently bought a new router, would that have anything to do with it?

Hi sorry for the late reply, I somehow missed seeing your post.

That test result is showing a very good connection so we can rule that out as it isn't your ISP or a slow connection, The service I get is about half those speeds and is perfectly OK for video.

Is it just poor performance of the video, does it stop and start or is it as you say just blurred as if out of focus?

Having looked through the thread, not that I understand much of that work, however I see you appear to have the latest version of Flash player. However there is the chance it was corrupted by the malware that has been removed, so it might help to uninstall Adobe Flash Player, and install a fresh version which you can download from here,

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

While installing you may get asked if you want the "Ask" toolbar, or other unwanted stuff, check carefully for such things and remove any ticks from boxes for them.

Flash Player is free and is required for most website video's.

Let us know how you get on and if replacing Flash Player works for you.

Good morning.  Sorry took so long.  I uninstalled adobe then reinstalled and appear to be getting the same thing.  It seems to go through stages..1 second it will be clear then will become blurry then go back to clear... Sometimes it seems to skp as well...

Any thoughts...

Thanks,

Truder

Hi, sorry again for a late reply, this time I was without internet for two days.

However what you now describe sounds more like an internet connection issue and a possible slow download. I also have seen similar when on a poor broadband service. What download and upload speeds are you supposed to be receiving, and have you checked that you are indeed getting a decent service?

try a speed check from here :-

http://www.speedtest.net/

Select a normal test, then select a different server that is some distance away.

Good Morning.  I think I'm supposed to be getting speeds up to 25 Mbps.

I just ran the speedtest and received

download : 16.21

upload:11.74

what factors have a bearing on my speed that I may be able to increase by making changes?

I currently use an old Linksys modem and N300 Netgear WNR2000 router.

Thanks,

Truder

Hi,

Firstly, that upload and download speed, though less than supposedly the maximum from your ISP, it is still fast enough for most normal Youtube downloads, so I think internet speeds can be ruled out after all, as I had forgotten I asked for the same thing which you gave the result in post #3.

The next thing is a possible problem with something hogging resources.

Lets have a look in the "Task Manager" and see what that tells us.

Click the start orb, then type or copy and paste in the search box,

Task Manager.

then click on "Task Manager" in the results.

On the bottom line it shows the number of processes running, the cpu usage and Physical memory percentage in use.

Run a video with that open and see if any of those three, especially the cpu and memory if they go to high figures, if so click the processes tab at the top and see if any process shows high figures, and let us know what you find.

Also can you tell us how much RAM memory your computer has in it please.
