From around October 2014, Google Chrome altered their Bookmarks output from a listing concept to a pictorial display.

 

The previous listing display showed all the Bookmarks, so that one could see the  whole listing at a glance, Same with the search output. It was easy and comprehensive. To scan the whole list only took seconds on the bar up and down scrolling.

 

Now the display shows a picture for each Bookmark, meaning that only a mere 6-9 items can be shown on one screen depth. You have to scroll up and down to see more and lose those items which go out of sight. I personally think it is close on useless. Same with the search.

 

To return to some kind of sanity, I have installed an extension called Crookmarks from the Chrome webstore. It works superbly in the old style listing format, almost exactly as the  previous Chrome output did.

 

You have to click the icon on the extension toolbar and a drop down panel appears showing all the Bookmarks, complete with search box.  No problem there, but having selected a Bookmark to display, which appears in a separate tag, the panel then disappears and you have to repeat the clicking procedure if you wish to select further Bookmarks. Small inconvenience, but significantly better than the restrictive pictorial affair.
