This post has been edited to say:

Somehow, following tons of different sets ofo instructions, I got the aurora virus off my computer...I think. No nail, no pop-ups. The only thing that remains as far as I can see is an entry in my Add/Remove Programs list from The ABI Network. So how do I get that off so that zealous family members don't click it and reinstall the virus? I am going to keep looking for the answer on the forums but I have not seen it yet.

The add/remove programs entry is still there but I personally don't see any other remainders of the virus. Definitely no popups at all. Here is my logfile:

Lets get this show on the road..

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

We will need to download a few tools that will help us in the removal of your problems. Save all of these files somewhere you will remember like to the Desktop.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://dknoppix.com/...oad.cgi?Nailfix
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Please download Cleanup from here:
Cleanup. Do not run it yet.

Set PC to show hidden files (click link if you do not know how)LINK

Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find: System Startup Service (SvcProc) .
Rightclick and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK.

Exit the Services utility.

Carry out a free online virus scan from the following link. Type in name, for company type anything you like, add email address in relevant boxes.

Kaspersky

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.bat. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. This may take some time, so go grab a coffee. Once it finds the first issue tick the box for all. Post the log from the scan here for me.

Now scan with HJT and check the following entries if they are there. Some may have been removed by earlier procedures.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe
O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com
O2 - BHO: Band Class - {01F44A8A-8C97-4325-A378-76E68DC4AB2E} - C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D714A94F-123A-45CC-8F03-040BCAF82AD6} - C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe02a.dll (file missing)
X(N)
X(F) O2 - BHO: ADP UrlCatcher Class - {F4E04583-354E-4076-BE7D-ED6A80FD66DA} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msbe.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bgsyydc] C:\WINDOWS\System32\bgsyydc.exe
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.neededware.com
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click FIX CHECKED.

now using windows explorer locate the following files/folders and delete them if present.

C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe02a.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msbe.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\bgsyydc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Next restart HJT and click on Misc Tools button, then select Delete an NT service

In the popup box paste the following into the box.

SvcProc then ok it

then IN misc tools, this time, click on open uninstall manager, find the offending ABI entry and click on it to highlight it, say goodbye and click on Delete this entry

Now run CleanUp!. Click CleanUp and allow it to delete all the temporary files.

Reboot your computer into normal windows.

Carry out another HJT scan and post the log back here, with the other logs, so we can sort out any remnants

Sorry to slow this process down but I've run Kaspersky and I don't see anyway to get rid of all of the stuff that was on my computer. There were 66 infected files, I believe and there's no remove button or anything. All of it is still on my computer. I figured I should probably not move on before taking care of that. Here is a log for Kaspersky:

Please move on....all of those are in 1 of your system restore points, we will clear them once we get your pc nice and clean, They are not a danger to your pc where they are, but i do not want to clear your restore points until you are sorted.

I did everything except run Cleanup because Cleanup wouldn't download from any of the links on the website. It said that "downloads.stevegould.com" (or somethiing to that effecct, that's from my memory) could not be found. I will continue to try although last time I ran cleanup after trying to clean up the aurora virus it messed my computer up and I had to do a system restore and restart all my spyware removal. Here is my newest HJT log:

OK forget about Cleanup, follow the instructions below

Please download CCleaner and install it. Close out the program when it has completed set up (Don't run it yet we will use it later )

Open CCleaner
To clean your machine, it is highly recommended that you clean the following directory contents (but not the directory folder):

Please run CCleaner to assist in this process.
(Setup: go to >options > settings > Uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours" for cleaning malware files!)

* C:\Windows\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <- This will delete all your cached internet content including cookies.
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* Empty your "Recycle Bin".

Close out CCleaner.

Then rescan with HJT and post the log back

I ran CClean like instructed. The message board formatting for this website is all messed up now though. I don't see any tables or colors or anything although the buttons are there. Is this just me or what happened?

Woo Hoo,

We're dancing ;) :tazz:

From your log, I see nothing in the ways of trojans, nor any evil entities attempting to possess your computer, except for Windows but it's too late for that one. :tazz:

Congratulations your log now appears to be clean. ;)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.
