Dear all,

 

I am using a HP printer and I am connecting it to my router via WPS however I am still seeing a unsecured connection to my printer in my wireless networks.

 

Just concerned if I am a target for hackers/piggybackers and how do i secure my printer with a WPA password?

Thanks Philpower, my router does have WPA2  security but the printer is unsecured.

 

When i connected it to my router via WPS, my printer shows unsecured under the list of wireless

 

Just reconfigured "Join printer to  secured wireless network via WPS" and it still shows unsecured even tho printer authentication is WPA/WPA2

HP WPS assumes that the printer and router are WPS compatible as in the need to be able to be suitably paired.

 

Can I ask are the printer and computer hardware security compatible, see here for a checklist, unfortunately it is by no means an exhaustive list in that not all products can be tested etc.

but as long as my router and printer configuration page has a password and my printer is connected to the router, its safe right?

Ensure that the wi-fi network is protected with WPA2 and that you are the only user allowed on your home network (in networking and sharing centre on your computer) as that will prevent people connecting to your printer wirelessly.
