I just got home from work and found a blue screen with this text:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow those steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Doable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or doable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and the select safe mode.

Technical information:

Looks like my computer is going to do a CHKDSK again. I hope I don't get that blue screen again.

And it is back to being stuck around the 50000 area. I will report back in 11ish hours if it has moved from that point.

The error it shows 0x0000007E is directly related to the iaSTor.sys which is the Intel Storage driver which can be updated at the Intel site.

Make sure you get the one for your OS.

Hello Dbz2004,

It sound like your hard drive is on it's last legs.

I would let chkdsk continue to run. The next time it completes I would immediately backup all of your data. After that is done I would run the diagnostics utility that should have come with your system.

If the hard drive does state failed then you would need to replace the hard drive. I would not trust it with any important files. There are some things that you can do as a last ditch effort to attempt to extend the life but those are usually only good enough to recover your data.
