My laptop not connecting to Internet though connects to wifi

My antivirus suddenly stopped working and I had lot of ads in the web pages. So my husband uninstall and reinstall the antivirus software. After reinstalling the antivirus, I am not able to connect to internet. So he uninstalled the antivirus. Still my internet is not up yet. Laptop easily finds the network and connects to it. But when I try to open the web page, it says "unable to connect to the internet"

Please help to resolve the issue...

Does the network icon in the Notification Area (next to the clock; usually in the lower right hand corner) say Internet access or not?

 

Also, what is the name and version of the antivirus that was uninstalled / installed / uninstalled?
