I have an Antivirus Gold Infection, apart from VX2 and any other infections I may not know about.
I have Ad aware SE, I scanned my system, and it cannot delete a file DrPmon.dll and I try to delete it when I reboot but it never works. I tried the VX2 plugin by lavasoft but amazingly it did not detect VX2!
I also have Spybot Search and destroy. That finds the junk but it cannot delete it.
I scanned using Norton and it finds some entries but it cannot delete them.
Here is my Hijack This log:

Hi Ziff,

Welcome to Geeks to Go !!!!

We are sorry that we missed your log earlier due to heavy traffic .

I will help you clean your PC :tazz:

Yes you are right, you do have a number of infections of your PC. Lets get started -

Please print out these instructions or copy them into a text file on your Desktop for easy access.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entires, delete some files or uninstall sosme programs. If in case, you do not see those entires / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Reboot the PC and post a fresh Hijack This log here.

Hey, tampa! Thanks for your help, and just so you know, you're helping a guy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania! So www.geekstogo.com is getting bigger and bigger!

Well, to get down to business, i cannot restart in safe mode, every time i do, the desktop appears and then it says windows explorer has an error and needs to close. it keeps on repeating that. Norton also keeps on detecting a trojan stwyole or something, but it cannot clean.

So basically i've followed your advice to the point where it says restart in safe mode, where i come to a crashing stop.

:tazz:

Hi Ziff,

Lets try this -

Please print out these instructions or copy them into a text file on your Desktop for easy access.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entires, delete some files or uninstall sosme programs. If in case, you do not see those entires / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

Unzip it to the desktop.

Please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following line

C:\Windows\System32\drpmon.dll

(complete path) in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each. When it ask you whether to reboot, click on Yes. If the PC doesnt reboot automaticlly, then reboot it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

All right, tampa. I kinda followed your instructions, except for the killbox one (drpmon.dll was not there :tazz: ) but then while ewido was scanning the computer crashed, and a dialog box opened up saying that windows has detected and recovered from a device failure.
I continued the scan and completed it.
I then scanned using hijackthis. The entry you told me to fix, amazingly, was not there...

So here's the fresh log you asked for...

Hi Ziff,

Welcome aboard. In the past two weeks I have had users from Canada, US, Israel, Europe and Australia.

Please print out these instructions or copy them into a text file on your Desktop for easy access.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entries, delete some files or uninstall sosme programs. If in case, you do not see those entries / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

1. Download Programs

Please download these programs and save them in a new folder on your desktop -

FixSasser
Smitfraud
CleanUp
CWShredder

Update CWShredder

* Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
* Click Check For Update
* Close CWShredder

DO NOT RUN THESE PROGRAMS YET !!!!

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

2. Remove Infections

Run FixSasser.exe
Run Smitfraud.exe
Run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.
Run CleanUp and delete all temp files including Temporary Internet files

3. Run Hijack This

Hi Ziff,

Copy the part in bold below into notepad and save it as background.reg
Save as type:All files (The first line in the file should be REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop]
"NoChangingWallPaper"=-
"NoAddingComponents"=-
"NoComponents"=-
"NoDeletingComponents"=-
"NoEditingComponents"=-
"NoCloseDragDropBands"=-
"NoMovingBands"=-
"NoHTMLWallPaper"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoActiveDesktopChanges"=-
"NoActiveDesktop"=-
"NoSaveSettings"=-
"ClassicShell"=-
"NoThemesTab"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoActiveDesktopChanges"=-

Doubleclick the file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Let me know of the progress

Good morning, Tampa!
Well, I added it to the registry, but once i logged off and went back on, a dialog box gave me the grave news :tazz: that Microsoft Windows had recovered from a serious error, and then, the diehard warning appears again like Jason with his scary hockey mask!

;)

Hi Ziff,

This problem and the fact that earlier you were not able to log into Safe Mode, indicates thaat you may have a driver conflict somewhere. I want you to do two things -

1. Give me a more detailed description of the problem. Give me any text or error number which accompanies the warning. If possible can you post a copy of the screenshot of that image at imageshack and give me a link ???

2. Click on Start ---> Settings ---> Control Panel. Double click on Adminstrative Tools and then on Computer Management. In the left Pane, click on System Tool and then on Event Viewer. For the three objects listed below it, for each one right click on the right hand pane and save the three logs.

Click on Device Manager and for each item on the right hand side check as to whether any warnings /alerts are displayed. Please use the attach feature while replying and dont paste the logs here as the logs are likely to be quite big.

Please attach the three log files saved earlier and let me know if you found any warnings / alerts in the Device Manager.

Hey, Tampa.
Hmm. I think you're right about the device driver conflict coz the error reporting to microsoft option appeared and it took me to a ppage that said that i prolly had a display driver conflict. I think this is the page.

http://support.intel...b/CS-009483.htm

I'm attaching the aforementioned logs, but the device manager was clean, no errors found.

Hey, tampa. good news.
I downloaded the updated drivers from intel and i installed them. apparently, it's a functional flaw that they've worked out. It's all good now. No more conflicts. (However, the warning is still on my desktop. :tazz: ) If only a shotgun would do me good at this point! ;)
So i dunno, should i still post the logs?
