why will my cd burner only work when it wants to?

I don't know very much about computers but when I'm trying to burn cds from music that I've gotten off of other cds... it only works sometimes. This brand does work on my computer because it has worked before. Can anyone help me?

Oh yeah... there's also a message when I turn on my computer every time I turn it on saying tha that a program won't run. I'm not sure what it says exactly... why does it do that?

What software are you using to burn CD's? You are saving the music you will burn to a disc on your harddrive right?
