Joe,

I chose 4/2 and we have the same error message. Do we need to go back further?

Go back further and we will exhaust these options. After this we will try & refresh windows. I'll provide instructions for that.

Good old Murphy!  Apparently 4/2 is the oldest it's offering. It seems that it should have older dates available.  Oh, well!

I think there may have been an issue where system restore points stopped working for whatever reason.

Take your time with this.

Lets try Refreshing not resetting but refreshing. I have a link for you with pictures an stuff to follow......

I'm a bit new with Windows 8.1, I have never given these instructions before. It looks like you could end up having to install a program or two after refresh so be aware of that, I see you have magic jack installed and that may have to be reinstalled.

When you Refresh your PC:
  • Windows will save your personal files, personalization settings.
  • Modern apps installed from the Windows Store.
  • Windows will reset your PC settings.
  • Windows will remove all installed desktop programs. A list of the removed programs will be saved to your desktop, to help in re-installation.
  • Please see refresh-windows-8-installation-without-losing-your-data

    Thanks
    Joe :)

Whoa....that was scary!  I'm thinking everything is back.  It sure did take a long time.  Most of it replacing what was removed.  BUT now I can download!  You'll have to let me know if there is more that we need to do to make sure that ugly thing is gone.

Thank you so much for the time you've spent working on this.  I certainly appreciate it.

Oh, yes, the saltwater is for fish and coral.  It's time for a small water change so I make up about 15 gal. at a time.

Goodnight,

Deb

Run the computer for a while. We can do a few minor checks Tomorrow.

Goodnight too

Joe,

Just checking in to see if there is anything else that I need to do to make sure this thing is totally gone.  I certainly would not like to have to repeat of all that stuff from last night.

Downloading is now working properly and the system is much faster.  Is it normal for IE to use so much memory?  If so, I will need to upgrade.

Thanks,

Deb

Hello,

Since we refreshed it's going to be best to look at yet another set of log files. Please attach the FRST.txt and the additions.txt and we will start from there.

What browser do you use most ?

Hi,

Got it.  I'll run another set now.

I normally use Internet Explorer. I guess since that's what I've been accustomed to I'm not comfortable with the others.
