I have been through those first five steps of scanning and fixing, but I cant seem to get rid of these 3 worms: BKDR -SERVU.25, WORM_SDBOT.GEN, and WORM_SDBOT. XW. These files are located in my systems folder. I keep getting pop ups and sometimes my internet stalls. I keep getting temporary internet files and cookies of websites that I dont look up. Any help on this? You can catch me on AIM at jcook141414 if it is easier that way... I can also post my hijackthis log if necessary.

Hi jcook,

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

Carry out a free online virus scan from the following link. Type in name, for company type anything you like, add email address in relevant boxes.

Kaspersky

Download a free 14 day trial of ewido from the link below. Install it and start it up. Follow the prompts to upgrade it, then close it down.

ewido

Please download Cleanup from here:
Cleanup. Do not run it yet.

Set PC to show hidden files (click link if you do not know how)LINK

Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find: Service: Windows Time Helper (setup32) .
Rightclick and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK.

then in services window find: Service: Cryptographic Services Helper (win2k)
Rightclick and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK

Exit services ulitity.

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. This may take some time, so go grab a coffee. Once it finds the first issue tick the box for all. Post the log from the scan here for me.

Now scan with HJT and check the following entries if they are there. Some may have been removed by earlier procedures.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
O2 - BHO: VBRunDLL Class - {197B8CA4-E215-46DD-8F33-E0544A80E5C4} - C:\WINNT\system32\vbrundll.dll
O2 - BHO: ohb - {9ADE0443-2AB2-4B23-A3F8-AC520773DE12} - C:\WINNT\system32\nshBE.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Internet Acceleration Utility] iau.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Internet Connection Wizard] stisvsq.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Games Acceleration] svshost.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Internet Mail and News] msqdevl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Multimedia extensions] mservice.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Management Console] lssas.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Internet Acceleration Utility] iau.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Internet Connection Wizard] stisvsq.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Games Acceleration] svshost.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Internet Mail and News] msqdevl.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Multimedia extensions] mservice.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Management Console] lssas.exe
O4 - Startup: DLHelperEXE.exe
O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} (Web P2P Installer) -
O23 - Service: Windows Time Helper (setup32) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\system\winlogon.exe
O23 - Service: Cryptographic Services Helper (win2k) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\system\winlogon.exe

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click fix checked.

Now using windows explorer locate and delete the following files if found:

C:\WINNT\system32\vbrundll.dll
C:\WINNT\system32\nshBE.dll

Now run cleanup to clear our temp files, junk etc.

Reboot normally, rescan with HJT and post the log back

Hi jc,

Reboot PC into safe mode, rescan with HJT and check the following:

O16 - DPF: {41B23C28-488E-4E5C-ACE2-BB0BBABE99E8} (HHCtrl Object) - MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "195.95.218.82" claiming to be http://195.95.218.82...last/hhctrl.ocx

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click fix checked.

Reboot normally, rescan with HJT and post log back

Re connection issue, can AIM connect on the infected machine to the internet or just local network?

There wasnt a firewall before i started. Dont know why there would be one limiting my access now. How would I check that anyway? Here is my HJT log:

I didn't mean you had a firewall, although there probably will be one, it was a suggestion to check that first. As i specialise on malware, i would suggest that you post in the Network forum so one of the experts who specialise in that area can assist you, more than likely it will require changing some settings that i don't understand ;)

From your log, I see nothing in the ways of trojans, nor any evil entities attempting to possess your computer, except for Windows but it's too late for that one. :tazz:

Congratulations your log now appears to be clean. ;)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.
