I have a compaq presario, running win me.
Never had any problems with the system, but shutdown the system for the last 4 weeks ( i have always kept the pc on), now when I restarted it, everything came up ok, but the hard drive activity light will not go off. Did a system restore from a floppy emergency boot for win me, no problems. But the hdd activity light will not go off. Can access all files, and even run some programs, but hdd activity light will not go off, when not accessing files or not running a program.  How can I find what program could be running in the background accessing the hd on this operating system, or what else? Any help would be appreciated.

You can see background tasks with Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) Shouldn't be anything too serious, but let me know what you find there.

You have to check your HDD with another pc . Run the HDD with diagnostic tools to found errors..

otherwise it may be mobo issues!!!
